Well done Tarah for creating such an inspiring label that makes women feel like queens while they’re juggling workouts, work, kids and chaos! Mamas give it up for Tarah…
Hey Mama Tarah, can you please tell us a bit about your family?
My husband and I have two beautiful children, aged 5 and 3 and we are a really close little family who love adventuring and exploring together.
What are you passionate about?
So much! Finding ways to truly enjoy down time with my family and taking in the little things is always high on my agenda. The most important thing to me in life is creating positive environments, having tons of fun with the important people in our lives. I’m also really passionate about my business and developing it into a well regarded brand and an Australian made success story.
What is your soul purpose?
I think my soul needs an avenue to churn out creativity and put it to good use. I am ignited by my passion to create, and I thrive on having a useful outlet for that. I never stop moving or thinking, I don’t need much downtime, I like being busy. If I can channel that need to design and play into a business that is known for having a very unique product and inspires its customers while providing for my staff, other local businesses and my family: Bam. Purpose sorted.
How are you pursuing that?
I’m just going for it! I launch new designs all the time, and I learn from what works and what doesn’t and continually improve on every aspect of my business. It can be easy to get sidetracked and consider trying to look more like every other brand that also looks like every other brand- but I stay true to my passion to stand out and I think it will pay off in the end. I would be thrilled to see Pink Punk become a thriving Australian label that represents fun, energy and positivity.
Why does health and fitness play such an important part in your life?
I don’t like that sluggish feeling that you get when you’re in a bit of a rut, not moving enough and there’s too much junk in your diet. I feel so much more switched on and efficient when I’m eating well and moving a little each day. In saying that, I’m a huge fan of moderation – life’s too short to obsess over carb counts and cardio times, I like finding a routine where health and fitness just becomes an easy part of everyday life.
How do you prioritize health and fitness while running your own business and having little ones?
To be honest- it’s been really hard during the launch of the business, which is ongoing.
There are weeks where there is literally not a moment that I couldn’t have used on mumm-ing and business-ing so I’ve had to be mindful of how hectic life my has become and find ways to stay active without it cutting too much into my time. So just being mindful of the little things like skipping the coke for a water or taking quick jog around the block before a shower and cooking dinner on those crazy days doesn’t take long and keeps me on track, physical and mentally.
What have been your biggest struggles and successes while running a business as a mumpreneur?
My biggest struggle is defitniely Mum guilt. I do sometimes wish that I could sit with my kids and do mindless craft all day, jump on the trampoline or swim in the pool with them for hours on end or not be running off to photoshoots or events every second weekend. They’re so precious and they’re only young once. But I do try my best to balance it, I just hope they enjoy the results of my hard work one day.
My biggest successes are the little wins along the way that encourage me to keep going such as when the media reaches out to feature Pink Punk because we stand out and probably most rewarding of all is seeing how our clothing touches the lives of our customers, inspiring them to feel excited and motivated to move.
Why is manufacturing your product ethically in Australia important to you?
There’s a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes with knowing exactly how your garments come to life and that everyone involved was remunerated well. It’s that feel-good feeling over money that I wish more brands would jump on.
What inspires your designs?
My ever changing mood really! I design my garments to walk a fine line between fashion and fitness. Our pieces have a clean, simple and ultra flattering cut for versatility and practicality. I then team those base pieces with an adventurous print or colour to bring it to life. Sometimes we’re dark and grungy, other times we’re covered in pastel flowers. We’re a bit Pink, and a bit Punk and I think our eclectic style is becoming what we’re known for.
What can we expect to see this summer from pink punk active?
We are releasing 4 stunning new print stories, with a lot of black and monochrome. All pieces team together in the most beautiful way. Think perfectly clashed textures and prints, all designed to be mixed, matched and perfectly clashed in true Pink Punk style.
What does the perfect summer day look like for you and your family?
We absolutely live for summer! The perfect summer day for us is an early morning outdoor adventure, a bite of lunch somewhere beautiful and scenic followed by an afternoon of lazy pool hangs and finished off with a BBQ with friends at night. That’s pretty much a standard Saturday for us in summer!
